The Victoria Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is encouraging residents to take the Texas Department of Transportation’s Household Travel Survey to help with transportation project planning in Victoria.
“As we think about how our transportation network should grow and develop in the long term, we want to be sure that new development is suited to our community’s needs,” said MPO Administrator Maggie Bergeron. “A functional transportation network is critical to growing our local economy and ensuring that our city’s businesses and services are accessible to all our residents.”
What does the survey include?
Residents who take the survey will need to provide some demographic information about their households, including how many people are in the household and how many vehicles they have.
Next, respondents will be asked to record their travel habits on a particular day, including the locations they visited and the roads they took to get there. This can be done by filling out a written travel log or by downloading the Household Travel Survey app.
How is the data used?
The MPO will use the data, along with other data sources, to gauge Victoria’s transportation needs and predict future needs. This will help the MPO make project recommendations to the City and TxDOT.

Agencies that plan street projects, such as the City and TxDOT, rely on objective data to guide their decision-making. By completing the survey, residents will help to provide these agencies with accurate data that will help them determine which types of projects they should pursue.
